T he women’s tennis team battled against Lake Superior State University in a tight match-up on Friday, Sept. 16.
Looking to improve on what has been a slow start for the Cougars, senior Kelly Smith won the first singles match for the team. Unfortunately, the team struggled overall in their second through fifth singles.
The sixth singles, however, gave the Cougars some hope, as freshman Kelli Cross snatched a victory, bringing the team to a 2-4 deficit at the end of singles. In doubles it was Smith again, paired with senior Becca Kragt who secured the win for the first doubles match.
Although the second doubles match went to Lake Superior, securing their victory, Cross and sophomore Jenna Bart ended the game on a strong note by winning the third match in doubles.
The team will look to finish the season strong with two home matches left: Sept. 27 at 2:30 p.m. vs. Bethel College and Sept. 29 at 4:00 p.m. vs. University of St. Francis. Come cheer on your Lady Cougars!
