Fall Fashion Article – Women’s Essentials

One great thing about the onset of fall is the possibility of new additions to my wardrobe. Along with shopping comes the decision of which articles of clothing will become my new staples for the season. Sundresses and sunhats are obviously out, so the question is: What is in? Four articles instantly came to mind when thinking about my new fall wardrobe: a good pair of trousers, a good blazer, flat loafers and a classic hat. Most of the articles are classic and have been around for a while, so it’s important to find a way to make them fresh.

First of all, in regards to trousers, you can go classic in a navy or dark print or spice things up with a colored pair. If you want to be daring, try a pair of trousers in a soft peach or yellow.

Second, blazers are my go-to jacket in the fall when temperatures start to get cool; if you’re looking for one that would match anything, try a navy with gold buttons to add a bit of class. I chose a soft plaid print to keep things light when paired with a dark pair of pants.

Third, loafers are quite menswear inspired, but I’m seeing many new takes on the classic shoe for women. I purchased a pair of black patent leather loafers from Topshop.com before the school year began. A pair of cheetah print and a pair of snakeskin loafers also caught my eye when shopping, and they would give any look a quirky modern update.

Last of all, hats, I feel, are the most underrated accessories in the closets of today’s youth, and I think they should make a comeback. Bowler hats can be found cheap at garage sales, thrift stores and in the attic of your grandparents’ house. Throwing them on with any outfit instantly raises the bar.

While most of the articles I mentioned are inspired by menswear, they translate just as well into the closet of today’s women. Try throwing a blazer over a sundress, a pair of loafers with a skirt and a hat with a pair of jeans. All of these items can make your favorite summer looks translate over into the cooler season. Let this fall be a time when you try new things and branch out of the jeans and hoodie combo each day. Embrace fashion!
