I’ve spent a lot of long nights in the Publication Lab. There was pizza, there were physically painful high-fives, debates over unimportant matters, YouTube festivals and of course the music, which can only be described as the good, the bad and the ugly. The good: All that “Shins” music; the bad: all that “Shins” music; and the ugly: all those musicals…you know who you are, L.W.
There was the change to “The Pulse,” a well-received one for the most part. All that color! And after experiencing the position of editor-in-chief first hand, I must applaud those who have come before me. I don’t know how you did it, but thank God we’re still alive!
Though there have been bumps down that uneven Michigan road, there have also been the enjoyable recently paved areas – you do know I’m speaking in metaphors, yes? However, despite the long nights, the stressful publication weeks, the plethora of emails, I gotta say, there’s a big chunk of me that’s going to miss this. All of this. Not just the paper, but the school as well.
One of my goals this semester was to turn the paper around and put it back on its feet. Hence the format change. My staff has been incredible in helping me accomplish this. The only thing missing is a good amount of readers! We still need you! Remember the advertisement we pulled out in the beginning? It doesn’t matter if you don’t want to join the staff, you can still take huge part in our mission simply by picking up each issue and reading it from cover to cover. That’s all I ask.
Take some time from Facebook, from Twitter, from blogging, from homework and enjoy the opinions, disagree with the opinions, discover what’s happening on campus, find the scores from the game, read reviews on the play you missed the previous weekend. We have so much to offer and when we publish a new issue every week, we lay the responsibility in YOUR HANDS. A paper is nothing without its readers. So read!
And so long, farewell…auf wiedersehen, goodbye. It’s been real.
Love,
Your Friendly Neighborhood Editor-in-Chief
