Jackson welcomes Cuppa

Cuppa, a fairly new coffee shop, has opened near downtown Jackson. The shop is located in ART 634 on North Mechanic St. The mission of Evan and his wife Koren Farmer, co-owners of Cuppa, is to serve “handcrafted coffee and espresso creations” along with teas, chai lattes, smoothies, frappes, hot chocolate, steamers and Italian sodas.

Cuppa came about through both a combination of serendipity and years of coffee experience, experimentation and expectation. “For most of my adult life, I have been searching for the perfect ‘cuppa’ coffee, and had been greatly disappointed by what I was finding in most local, chain, and corporate coffee places. Then I happened upon the ‘pour over’ brewing method and began reading up on the specialty coffee movement, which has been focusing on quality far above quantity for many years now.  Companies such as Intelligentsia, Stumptown, MadCap, and Populace Coffee are all focused on sourcing, roasting and brewing the best coffee possible, and I’ve learned much from their great resources of coffee knowledge,” said Farmer.

“The purpose [and] intent of Cuppa is to create a learning, sharing and doing community. We strongly support the arts, not just with our presence in a commercial art building in the heart of Jackson’s burgeoning art district, but in our methodology, our marketing, our approach to customer service and even public relations,” he said.

Cuppa hosts a variety of open mics, poetry readings and an environment for different groups to meet on a weekly or monthly basis. The shop advertises a family-friendly environment, welcoming children of all ages. Their hours are Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

“We seek creative approaches to everything in life and hope to encourage others to do so as well by offering our space and our handcrafted beverages to all who come through our doors. Cuppa is a place where all are welcome to gather, to meet together and create, dream, love, hope, brainstorm, work, write, study, make music, sing, recite poetry, paint, sculpt, draw or do whatever it is that helps remind us we are human and gives us purpose,” he said.

Before heading out to Starbucks, give Cuppa a chance and support local business at the same time. Head there for a warm beverage or to play some board games with friends and family. To contact the owners, email jacksoncuppa@gmail.com.

They have “THE” best expresso I have ever tasted! It is definately worth the wait for them to craft my coffee.

I stumpled upon this place at an event at 624. While the coffee was decent, the places is a dump. Grunge workers, long hair, and people who don’t shave. Explains the hair in my dessert. Great for the college kids, but not for me. I’ll stick with Biggby Coffee.
