Linguistic Death Sentence

Lake Superior State University has been publishing their “Banished Words List” since 1976. Every New Year’s Day, the university shares words and phrases they deem overused, useless or misused.

Initially, the list was released to gain publicity for the university but the hundreds of word submissions received annually keep the tradition alive. Since then, the list has been mentioned on numerous cable networks as well as radio stations in North America and Europe.

The Pulse decided to do add some of the overused, useless or misused words that can be heard on the campus of Spring Arbor University. These words/phrases include, but are not limited to the following:

“legit”
“like”
“epic” and “epic fail”
“gotcha”
“awesome”
“hey girl”
“I know, right”
“maaan”
“whatever”
“the concept”
“come at me, bro.”
“gay”
“you mad?”
“hipster”

So Spring Arbor students, what do you think? Do you agree?
