S pring Arbor University’s (SAU) spring production of “You Can’t Take it With You”, is
opening this week. Based around the eccentric Sycamore household, it is a comedy about
the love/hate relationship that often defines family.
The plot revolves around Alice, played by junior Kristen Larson, the only working and
relatively normal member of the Sycamore family, who falls in love with Tony, portrayed
by junior Ethan Lampe, a rather conventional businessman. Through the interaction of
the two families, the idea of “the right way to live” is thoroughly defined and redefined.
“You Can’t Take it With You” is directed by Kaleigh Casey along with co-director Kyle
Rehnlund.
Upon hearing there was no drama production scheduled to be worked on during interim,
Casey asked drama professor Dr. Paul Patton, if she might head-up a show.
Casey was out of town when Patton agreed, so Rehnlund started sending her possible
plays. Casey was quickly drawn to the show. “The more I read through it, the more I fell
in love with [it],” she said.
Casey commends her incredible cast for their hard work and ability to portray the
eccentric characters from experiences in their own unique lives. She said she urges
students to come see the show. “[You Can’t Take it With You] is about doing what you
love, and we get to do what we love in it,” she said.
