The aww-fect of cuteness

If laughter is the best medicine, could it also improve studies? Hiroshima University did a study in the power of “cute” and its power to improve concentration and productivity.

The study

Researchers surveyed 132 college students. Conclusions showed pictures of cute, cuddy animals improved the students’ performance in the board game “Operation.”

The conclusions

  • Laughter relaxes the body as it releases endorphins and blocks stress hormones.
  • Smiling and exercising the abdomen can raise one’s mood.
  • By relaxing and easing the situation physically, emotionally and mentally, we focus better on the task at hand.
  • After viewing pictures of cute animals, participants’ attempts needed to complete the tasks in “Operation” decreased by 12 percent. Scores increased by 44 percent.

So if your life is full of stress and schoolwork, look for a dose of adorable to help your focus.

In the Hiroshima University study, the break was only to view seven pictures. “The Pulse” recommends these puppy pictures.
