Ichiban Japanese restaurant and sushi bar is Spring Arbor’s newest dining experience, featuring a thorough sushi menu, rolls, nigiri and combinations of both. Ichiban also has a full hibachi menu and “Bento Boxes,” a traditional Japanese boxed lunch, for those not interested in sushi. The food is well priced, with hibachi entrees from $7-$14, Bento Boxes for 8 or 9 dollars and a California roll for only $4. Ichiban owner Thanh Nguyen has plans to put in a hibachi grill like other Japanese steakhouses.
“I think you need [a sushi restaurant],”
Nguyen said about Spring Arbor community. Though Ichiban replaces China Garden, Nguyen is not nervous.
“I have confidence in my food,” he said, and he recommends that first time sushi eaters try a shrimp tempura or spider roll. Overall, Ichiban’s sushi was fast and flavorful and is an awesome portal to Japan in walking distance from Spring Arbor.

It is my opinion that those that refuse this establishment are “anti-” excellent food, affordable prices, and all else that goes with supporting a new member of the Spring Arbor community!
Seriously though, I have dined at Ichiban 12 times since it has opened. It really is that good. Do you want to try this restaurant out without the walk? Every Tuesday at the Cougar Den, there is sushi prepared for sale and consumption from Ichiban.
My husband (and 5 year old son) like Ichiban, too… It’s great to see Spring Arbor with so many options. Back in the Dark Ages at SAC we had to pool together to get a place to deliver pizza to the dorms (and then they only did it once a week for the first two years…)Now there’s sushi in the Cougar Den??? Enjoy it.

Our whole family likes Ichiban, esp. the sushi. I will go out of my way to eat there, because it is good, healthy, and I want any ethnic option to stick around!
